(1586). TYARD (Pontus de). DOUZE FABLES DE FLEUVES OU FONTAINES with description for painting and epigrams. Paris, Jean Richer, 1586. In-12 of 23-1bl. leaves, red morocco, cold framing on the boards and gilt fleurons on the corners, inner gilt lace, gilt edges (Capé). Second edition published one year after the original, procured by Etienne Tabourot, who wrote to the author: "Monsieur, vous ne serez pas marry si j'ay entrepris de faire imprimer ce papier que je pris y a environ deux mois en vos étude à Broigny". Pontus de Tyard had composed these verses 3 years earlier for the Château d'Anet. The descriptions are in prose, each accompanied by an epigram in the form of a sonnet. A very fine copy, perfectly bound by Capé (Rothschild no. 2600, ed. of 85) (Tchemerzine V, 899) (USTC 24591).
