Doni divides the worlds into celestial and terrestrial ones (Monde sage, monde des fols, grand monde, monde mélé, monde imagine...) and infernal ones (L'enfer des Escoliers, des mal-mariez, des putains et ruffians, des soldats et capitaines poltrons, des piètres docteurs, des usuriers, des poëtes et compositeurs ignorants...). Princeps edition of this rare and singular book, in the French translation by Gabriel Chappuis (1546-1613), dedicated to Antoine Du Verdier and decorated with curious woodcut medallions at the head of the "worlds". Title rebacked with small tears, first few leaves washed and last leaf missing (printer's mark). Nourry bookshop label (Brunet II, 812) (Baudrier IV, 136) (Caillet n°3198) (USTC 6712).
