Lyon edition adorned with Giovio's portrait and 138 LARGE EMBLEMATIC FIGURES woodcut by Le Maître à la Capeline, oval-shaped with mottoes embedded in the images, in a floating ribbon. 102 for Giovio and 36 for Symeoni, including the title. The arms of Jacques-Auguste de Thou and his wife Gasparde de La Chastre (OHR pl. 216, iron no. 8). Iron used in this case by his eldest son, François-Auguste de Thou, condemned to death in 1642 in the Cinq-Mars conspiracy.
