(1574). CONTILE (Luca). RAGIONAMENTO DI LUCA CONTILE SOPRA LA PROPRIETA DELLE IMPRESE CON LE PARTICOLARI DE GLI ACADEMICI Affidati et con le interpretationi et croniche. Pavia, Girolamo Bartoli, 1574. In-folio of [6]-162(chiffr.161)-[1] leaves, soft vellum, gilt fillets and spandrels, gilt Renaissance iron in the center of the boards, gilt and chased edges (period binding). First edition illustrated with an engraved title, a hors-texte plate featuring a map of the world with America and 115 very fine etched FIGURES of EMBLEMS in different frames, showing great imagination. These emblems were those of the members of the Academy of the Affidati - an academy concerned with science and letters - of which Contile was a member. Leaf Qq4 is missing, as in all copies, despite exact foliation. Staining on several leaves, the corner of one page has been mended with old thread. Ex-libris Ladislao Reti.
