(1573). ESTIENNE (Robert). THESAURUS LINGUAE LATINAE. Lyon, (Compagnie des libraires), 1573. 4 volumes in-folio of [12]-1362-[4]-752-[4]-449-[34] pages, wood-covered boards in cold-stamped fawn calf, broad frames of full irons and fleurons, multiple fillets and scrolls, central lozenge with gilt medallion and coat of arms with red wax band charged with three gold crescents, all surrounded by the motto: Non auro sed ferro, metal reinforcements, traces of clasps, (period binding). The annotations and notes by Henri Estienne, son of Robert Estienne, first appeared in this fourth edition, published at the expense of the Grand Compagnie des Libraires de Lyon. They were later included in the Basel edition of the 18th century. EXEMPLAIRE AUX ARMES DE LA FAMILLE VAN DEN DAELE de Flandre-Brabant en enrichi d'épreuves du portrait d'Alvarus Nonius, médecin anversois, gravé par J. Wierix, en 1586, collés sur les gardes en regard des 4 titres. From the library of Sir Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1653-1716), a great Scottish patriot and one of Britain's most eminent bibliophiles, with his autograph signature on the titles. Some foxing and dampstaining. Corners of pages 1145-1148 of the second volume cut out, without affecting the text. Significant restorations to spines.
