Historian born in Villeneuve de Berg around 1450, Jean de Serres, Olivier's brother, studied in Lausanne and settled there after the Saint Bartholomew's Day. His memoirs form a compendium of memorable events in France under Henri II, François II and Henri III, and cover the period from 1568 to 1570.
