(1571). SERRES (Jean de). MEMOIRES DE LA TROISIEME GUERRE CIVILE et des derniers troubles de France. (Geneva, Jean Crespin), 1571. In-8, [8]-484-[4] pages, calf, gilt fillets on covers, ornate ribbed spine (18th century binding). Historian born in Villeneuve de Berg around 1450, Jean de Serres, Olivier's brother, studied in Lausanne and settled there after the Saint Bartholomew's Day. His memoirs form a compendium of memorable events in France under Henri II, François II and Henri III, and cover the period from 1568 to 1570. After this publication, he was appointed historiographer of France by Henri IV. A good copy. Ex-libris Froissart (CDM p. 76) (Barbier III, 201).
