In-4° of [96]-195-[1] pages, blond calf, wide spandrels and Renaissance iron on the boards, spine ribbed, gilt edges (period binding). Lyon first edition of Henry VIII's work against Luther, published by Gabriel de Saconay, Canon-Count of Lyon, who accompanied it with a long and curious preface in which he attacked the Reformation with a verbal violence that earned him Calvin's insults, the latter accusing him of bad company with Louise Labbé. Marginal foxing, minor damage to binding with old restoration to one hinge, worn binding, stamp on one endpaper and handwritten note "Mentita est iniquitas sibi" at bottom of title.
