Description
(1558-1557). MAROT (Clément). LES OEUVRES DE CLEMENT MAROT DE CAHORS, vallet de chambre du Roy. Revues et augmentées de nouveau (1558) - TRANSLATIONS by Clément Marot. La mort n'y mordre (1557). Lyon, Guillaume Rouille, 1558-1557. 2 parts of 592 and 320-[16] pages, chestnut morocco, gilt fillets with central finial and corner finials on boards, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges (modern binding). Attractive and rare edition entirely composed in italic type; it is divided into 2 parts: the first containing the poems fused and classified by genre, the second, under separate pagination with the title dated 1557, contains translations of Virgil, Ovid's Metamorphoses, Petrarch's sonnets, David's Psalms, etc.., handsomely illustrated with 45 VIGNETTES ON WOOD drawn by Pierre Vase to illustrate the first two books of the Metamorphoses. Edition of 1557, only refreshed with a title for the first part dated 1558; the second part has undergone no transformation. This is the seventh edition published by the Lyon bookseller Guillaume Rouille. Minor defects, a very good copy entirely ruled in red ink (Baudrier IX, 240) (USTC 8157, 10 copies) (Brunet III, 1457).
