(1557). CARDAN (J). LIBER DE LIBRIS PROPIIS. Lyon, Guillaume Rouillé, 1557. - GIOVIO (P). ELOGIA DOCTORUM VIRORUM. Antwerp, Jean Beller, 1557. 2 works of 192 pages and [16]-295-[9] pages, in 1 volume in-8, soft ivory vellum (period binding). 1. Precious and rare inventory drawn up by Jérôme Cardan of his own books, in which he details their contents and draws up several unpublished tables of contents relating to them. Cardan lists all the books that have been published or are ready to be published (not at USTC, nor Baudrier) (Adams C-686). 2 (Bound at head). Collection of short prose biographies by Paolo Giovio (1483-1552) on some 180 famous men (Dante, Erasmus, Petrarch), with neo-Latin verse by Italian poets and, in this second edition, a poem for each person by the humanist J. Latomus. (USTC, 401003). Some foxing, a very good copy in its original vellum.
