Rovillium, 1553. 2 parts of [8]-172-[4] and 247-[1]-[7]-1bl. pages bound in 1 volume in-4°, fawn basane, gilt lace on boards, ornate ribbed spine (modern binding). FIRST EDITION AND FIRST EDITION SET WITH 824 woodcut MEDALS. In its French version, this promptuary begins with the portrait of Adam and Eve and continues through to that of Henri II. All the finely engraved faces were largely executed by G. Reverdy and Cl. Corneille to a lesser extent, according to Baudrier. Repaired title and first few leaves, scattered light rings. Fine copy with good margins (Baudrier IX, 205).

In 4° (305 x 223 mm); 2 parts in 1 volume; [8], 491, [1] pages. Frontispiece printed in red and black, 33 copper-engraved plates including the frontispiece (minor flaws and restorations.) Coeval half-leather binding with corners, gilt title to spine (text block divided). Exemplar with beards of this first edition. Significant work of natural history divided into two parts, with fine illustrative system designed by Boucher and engraved by Quentin Pierre Chedel. The first part is devoted to lithology while the second to shellology.

Frontispiece within architectural border, numerous woodcut figures, also full-page, in text (missing last blank paper of first part, frontispiece and second paper of first part in facsimile, frontispiece and preliminary papers of second part bound at beginning of volume, defects and restorations with some loss of text). Coeval sow's leather binding on wooden board with blindstamped plates and casters, traces of two clasps, green boards). Walter Ashburner stamp. Fine provenance specimen of this first edition edited by Josse Bade printed in Lyon. The beautiful woodcuts were first used in Grüninger's Strasbourg edition of 1502, edited by Sebastian Brant.
