[Théâtre de Marionnettes]. LEMERCIER DE NEUVILLE (Louis). Théâtre des Pupazzi. Lyon, N. Scheuring éditeur, 1876; in-8 (22x15 cm), red morocco, triple gilt filleting on boards, ribbed spine, four small central oval circles in black mosaic, decorated with gilt small irons, two pieces of green morocco: author-title, city-date, wide gilt entelle framing on contreplats, gilt edges. First ornate cover (XXVI-411-(3) pages. Portrait, 18 vignettes (discharges, some foxing) illustrating the 18 plays. First collective edition, combining the two series published in 1866 and 1869. Lemercier de Neuville was a French puppeteer, journalist, columnist, playwright and storyteller (1830-1918); in 1860, he created a portable pupazzi theater, performing contemporary famous men in caricature, in the form of cardboard characters.
