The base of the lamp is engraved in German with the following text: In memory of District Rabbi Aron Guggenheimer on behalf of his community of Kriegshaber. The chairman: Samson Oberdorfer and Jakob Goetz. Germany, 19th century. Title mark 13 and goldsmith's mark on the upper part. 29 x 21 cm - Weight : 459 g Several screws and nuts replaced. Damaged shamash with holes. Base worn and missing. Rabbi Aron Guggenheimer (1793-1862), a graduate of the Fürth yeshiva, became rabbi of the Kriegshaber district in 1819. A supporter of the Reform movement, he delivered his sermons exclusively in German. In 1836, he played a key role in the successful conclusion of the Upper Danube District Synod in Augsburg, which improved religious conditions for Jews. Religious education was at the heart of his work, particularly in the Augsburg grammar schools of St. Anna and St. Stephan.
