(1543). VITRUVE. DE ARCHITECTURA LIBRI DECEM, ad Augustum Cæsarem accuratis conscripti: & nunc primum in Germania qua potuit diligentia excusi... Strasbourg, in officina Knoblochiana per Georgium Machaeropiaum, 1543. In-8 of [52]-260 (1 to 96 and 99 to 262, not lacking)-[52] pages, brown calf, boards framed in cold, spine ribbed (modern pastiche binding). First edition printed in Germany, given by Rivius and illustrated in the text with 89 CHARMING WOODEN ENGRAVINGS depicting weathervanes, sundials, rafts, mills, Archimedes in his bathtub and various drawings based on those of the 1521 edition, but in reduced format; the text is composed entirely in italic print. This edition concludes with Nicolas de Cues' "De staticis experimentalis" and Frontin's "De aquaeductibus". A few leaves restored at the corners, but not missing. (Fowler 401) (USTC 674607).
