(1522). KETHAM (Joannes de). FASCICULO DE MEDICINA. COLLECTORIO UNIVERSALISSIMO CHIAMADO FASCICULO DE MEDICINA... Venice, César Arrivabene, 1522. Small folio of [4]-64 (of 65) leaves, half Russian lavaliere leather, spine ribbed (19th century binding). ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MEDICAL WORKS OF THE 15TH CENTURY AND THE FIRST ILLUSTRATED MEDICAL BOOK. The Italian text is printed on 2 columns, and the illustration is one of the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. The woodcuts are similar to those in The Dream of Poliphilo, and may well be by the same artist. These large woodcuts depict Montagnana as a student, a consultation scene, urine vases, man and his venous system, zodiac man, man with different wounds, men with the locations of different diseases, the pestiferous scene with the doctor putting camphor under his nose, a dissection scene. The woodcut showing a seated woman with her stomach open (folio 24) is missing. Some marginal handwritten annotations, good condition inside. (USTC, 837019).
