(1481). HEROLT (Johannes). DE MIRACULIS BEATAE MARIAE VIRGINIS CUM SERMONIBUS DE SANCTI sac promptuarium exemplorum ejusdem. Cologne, Johannes Koelhoff de Lubeck, 1481. Fort in-4° gothic of 3 parts of 277 (out of 278) leaves, brown calf stamped on wood, trace of a clasp, spine ribbed ornamented, tr. chased (binding of the period). The 3 parts are entitled: Sermones de sanctis - Promptuarium exemplorum - Promptuarium de miraculis. Johann Herolt, also known as Discipulus, was a Dominican preacher. Herolt has been described as "the most prolific, skilful and honored author of books of sermons in 15th-century Europe". The sermons of Johann HEROLT are most curious for an appreciation of the mores of the time. Johann HEROLT, generally known as Le Disciple, was born in 1390 and died in 1468. A Dominican preacher, he was lector and prior of the Dominican monastery in Nüremberg; his sermons were filled with accounts of the lives of the Virgin Mary and the saints. Leaf a1 is missing. Copy entirely rubricated in red, with red arabesque decoration on the top of the title (ISTC ih00105000).
