BOOK OF HOURS FOR THE USE OF ROME, from the second half of the 15th century. Latin manuscript of 173 leaves on vellum, calligraphed and illuminated in 1 volume in-12 (127 x 95 mm), blond calf, cold lace framing the boards with large gilt floral motif, small piece of morocco in the center, smooth spine decorated with the same, gilt edges, endpapers decorated with arabesque motifs with color highlights. (19th century binding). Beautiful manuscript, probably Neapolitan, perfectly preserved in an elegant 19th-century binding. Beautiful writing in brown and red ink, 12 lines per page, advertisements, headings in bright red, numerous small initials in red and blue, elegant initials in blue or gold with filigree decoration extending into the margins in red or blue ink. 4 LARGE FULL-PAGE ENLUMINATIONS AND 7 ORNAMED INITIALS, 4 to 5 lines high, green and pink on a gold background, with floral motifs, and with extensions and golden besants in the margins introducing the major liturgical divisions. - The calendar occupies the first 12 leaves (1 to 12). Latin calendar in red and black ink with large red and blue initials. February 5 Saint Agatha virgin, February 14 Saint Valentine priest, April 14 Saints Tiburce and Maximus martyrs of Rome, September 30 Saint Michael dedication, November 6 Saint Leonard, November 9 dedication of the Basilica of the Savior in Rome, (honored by Franciscans). - Folio 13: Virgin and Child with coat of arms (Lambel with 4 golden fleurs-de-lis in 2 bends accompanied by 2 stars and 3 roses) in a circular medallion presented by 2 angels, flower and foliage borders with 2 birds facing each other. (Hours of the Virgin Mary). - Folio 93: David playing the Cythare with borders of flowers and butterflies and two birds facing each other (Seven Psalms of Penitence). - Folio 121: Skeleton with folded hands, flower borders and gold vase (Office des morts). - Folio 167: Crucifix on Mount Golgotha, flower borders with gold vase and facing birds (Hours of the Cross).
