Giambattista TIEPOLO, School of. Seventeen heads. Drawings. 9 sheets, each of mm. 222x154. Black pencil on strong gray-blue laid paper. Sign of dampstain on the margins that does not affect the drawings. It is a study of the Banquet in Levi's house carried out in the workshop of Giambattista Tiepolo, by Francesco Lorenzi or by Costantino Cedini. The nine sheets, coming from a dismembered album with a trace of numbering in pencil, depict heads of the different characters in the Veronese painting, with different angles and perspectives. Eight sheets bear the designs on the front and back.

Excellent fresh color impression with nice bokashi (fog), blind embossing (White Cloak), backed, margins partly trimmed, lower right corner soiled. Fujikawa in a gorge in the evening mist; a high ranking Samurai on horseback gives the signal to descend to the station. Fujikawa, from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Fan [of the Tôkaidô Road] (Suehiro gojûsan tsugi); series created on the occasion of the invitation of the shogun Tokugawa Iemochi in 1865 to the imperial court. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1839 - 1892, has widely been recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre of woodblock printing and painting.

SOLIMENA, Francis. Country party. Drawing. 1657-1747 Sheet of mm. 237x348. Watercolor brush drawing, black, gray and white, on ivory wire rod paper. Foxing at the top of the sheet, good condition. Great and bright scene animated by many characters. In the center, a young and attractive peasant woman dances to the sound of a flute, surrounded by women, shepherds, children and animals: in the background, some architectural elements. The shadows and touches of white lead, especially on the draped dresses of the women, give the whole scene an accentuated luministic vibration.
