Louros-type Cycladic head Extremely schematic, this head consists of a simple triangular outline, slightly concave, without a nose, polished, with a rounded chin. The neck is slightly flared. Discovered in 1904 by C. Stéphanos on the island of Naxos, these idols are distinguished by their absence of facial features in relief. Jean Roudillon used this Cycladic head to illustrate his business cards. Marble, remains of micro-deposits, cleaned. Cyclades, Late Early Cycladic II, circa 2800-2700 B.C. Violin idol Anatolian art Early 3rd millennium BC Marble H. 10.5 cm This schematic, violin-shaped figurine features a long protrusion indicating the head and neck, and a flat body with two notches on the sides, forming the arms. Violin-shaped figurines - so named for obvious reasons - are the most common type of schematic representation of the human body in early Cycladic art, and have several variants. They are generally small in size, rarely exceeding 20 cm in height. We know that they represent female figures, as several examples feature an incised pubic triangle or - less frequently - modelled breasts.
