Description
Paul Roux (1851-1918), Haymaking. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated 1878 and located on reverse (Seine et Oise) 36.5 x 52 cm when viewed. As is: two small dents. A pupil of Alexandre Cabanel and Henri Harpignies, Paul Roux was quick to break away from academic training to work on the motif, in the forests of Fontainebleau and Ile de France, in Normandy and Brittany. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1870 onwards.
