The Wakmann Watch Co. was founded in 1946 by Icko Wakmann in New York and imported several high-quality watch brands for the North American market, the most famous of them being Breitling timepieces. Wakmann had formed a partnership with Breitling in 1947 and imported their cockpit clocks for the American military as well as for civil aviation. After World War II, Wakmann began producing their own watches in parallel to the sales and distribution business; they were also supplied with watches by the Swiss company Charles Gigandet S.A. in Tramelan. Wakmann sold only a few watches with double signatures. Manual-wound chronographs are popular timepices that are still highly coveted by collectors because of their beautiful design and the outstanding movements used.
