Johann Baptist Homann, copper engraving map of Bavaria In the upper right corner splendid figurative cartouche and therein titled "Bavariae Circulus et Electorat...", depicting the area between Bayreuth in the north, Wels in the east, Innsbruck in the south and Nördlingen in the west, coloured copper engraving on laid paper, around 1720, two lines of text above the depiction, beautiful strong impression, usual fold line in the centre, somewhat browned in the margins, depiction dimensions, without writing approx. 55.5 x 47.5 cm, sheet dimensions approx. 62 x 53 cm. Artist's information: German engraver, publisher and Jesuit (1664 Kambach to 1724 Nuremberg), probably pupil of David Funck, founded his own publishing house "Homännisches Landkarten-Offizin" around 1702, 1715 member of the Royal Prussian Society of Sciences, Emperor Charles VI. Emperor Charles VI awarded him the title of "Imperial Geographer" and the Russian Tsar Peter the Great appointed Homann "Imperial Russian Agent", active in Vienna, Leipzig and Nuremberg, among other places, Source: Thieme-Becker and Internet.
