Franz von Stuck, Nautilus goblet Designed around 1890, executed by A. Köhler & Cie. Vienna for WMF, gilt bronze and silver-plated Britannia metal, Cupid standing on a turtle as a youth, holding a large nautilus shell with a putto sitting on a fish, shell decorated with scrollwork and mascaron, tips of the two arrowheads missing, patina partially missing, h 47.7 cm. Artist information: bed. dt. German painter, graphic artist, sculptor and architect (1863 Tettenweis - 1928 Tetschen), studied 1882-84 at the Munich School of Arts and Crafts and from 1885 at the Munich Academy under Wilhelm von Lindenschmit, influenced by Diez, Böcklin and Lenbach, 1892 co-founder and president of the Munich Secession, from 1895 professor and successor to Lindenschmit at the Munich Academy, alongside Kaulbach and Lenbach was one of Munich's painter princes, ennobled in 1906, honorary member of numerous academies, active in Munich, appointed Privy Councillor in 1924 and Dr. h.c., source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Matrikel der Akademie München and Internet.
