Meissen large ceremonial vase Portrait of Augustus the Strong Designed by Ernst August Leuteritz 1860-1863, underglaze blue pommel mark circa 1860, 1st choice. Choice, indistinct embossed number and underglaze blue brush number 3, mounted in three parts, baluster-shaped body on a fluted round foot with high volute handles, rich relief decoration of acanthus leaves, ornamental friezes and sculpted pearl band and fine polychrome overglaze painting, the front with a bust portrait of the King of Poland and Elector of Saxony (1670-1733) with armour, ermine cloak, sash and Order of the Golden Fleece, after a copper engraving by Beck from around 1715, in a fine gold-etched floral cartouche, on the reverse a landscape island with a detailed depiction of a hog hunt in front of Moritzburg Castle as well as numerous surrounding flower bouquets and flowering branches, rich gilt decoration and gilt rim, rare piece, good condition for its age with a factory-applied beetle mark, small "flea bite" to the handle, partially slightly rubbed gilding and minimal scratches to the portrait, h 59 cm.
