Gospel. Moldavia, 1834. Printed during the reign of Nicholas I at the Neamt monastery printing house by the monk Isaie, while Veniamin was archbishop and metropolitan of Moldavia and Suceava, and Domitian archimandrite of the Neamt and Socola monasteries. Bound in red velvet (worn and faded) with, on the first board, an oval silver-embossed medallion of the Resurrection and, on the fourth board, an oval medallion of the Crucifixion. The plates have four silver spandrels embossed with rays (two missing from the fourth plate). 400p. 4 full-page lithographs and several vignettes. 35.2 x 24 cm The printing house of this Neamt monastery was founded in 1803 by Veniamin Kostaki [Benjamin Costache] (1768-1846).
