Leon (Lev Maximovich) SCHULMANN (GASPARD) (1883-1964) Painter in the snow, 1907 Oil on panel. Signed, located Paris and dated lower right. On the back, a label on the mounting board indicates in ink "N°4. Un artiste inconnu / Léon Schulmann" and in graphite, a price of 250 f. 22 x 27.5 cm Léon Schulmann came to Paris in 1905 and settled there, with a foray into Russia in the autumn of 1907 and 1908. On December 24, 1908, in Paris, he married Eugénie Evlyn Gasper, an American from New York, and used his wife's Frenchized name to sign "Léon Gaspar Schulman(n)", "Léon S. Gaspar" and then, from 1914 onwards, "Léon Gaspard". Signature, date and place are consistent.
