Meissen. Ca. 1740/60. Porcelain, enriched in colours and gold. Watteau scenes in the mirror, surrounded by finely worked gold cartouches. The exposed edges are partially decorated with small floral paintings, which in turn are surrounded by detailed gold borders. ø 13,3-13,5cm. All pieces with swords mark, painted blue under glaze and decorated-over 'AR'/Augustus Rex Marke. Partially with potter's numers 2/21/63. Provenance: Private collection Trier. Meissen oval saucer, 1740-1745 Polychrome porcelain. Make: blue swords. Height 3.5@@@ diameter 17.1x13.4 cm. Conservation: very good. From the polylobate bowl form it is painted on the bottom with a pair of grotesque characters of dancing dwarfs on a grassy island sod. The inspiration for the Meissen painters are "The Caprices," engravings from about 1622 by Jaques Callot (ca. 1593-1635). A milk jug from the same period and decorated with Callotian dwarfs is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and published in the catalog A.L.den Blaauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rjiksmuseum, Amsterdam 2000, no. 230
