Meissen oval saucer, 1740-1745 Polychrome porcelain. Make: blue swords. Height 3.5@@@ diameter 17.1x13.4 cm. Conservation: very good. From the polylobate bowl form it is painted on the bottom with a pair of grotesque characters of dancing dwarfs on a grassy island sod. The inspiration for the Meissen painters are "The Caprices," engravings from about 1622 by Jaques Callot (ca. 1593-1635). A milk jug from the same period and decorated with Callotian dwarfs is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and published in the catalog A.L.den Blaauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rjiksmuseum, Amsterdam 2000, no. 230
