Description

Frankreich.

France. End of the 18th c. Fire-gilded bronze, white marble, amongst others. Structure in the form of a round temple with a flat plinth and three smooth columns. In between, the allegorical painting with Cupid and a cock. Finished at the top with a round marble slab, along the moulded edge string of pearl and suspended chains with tassels. The round work is set between four large pine cones and crowned by another one at the top. The dial is formed by two superimposed enamelled chapter rings with Roman hours and Arabic minutes. At the bottom of the cornice is a snake whose raised head makes it possible to read the time on the horizontally moving chapter ring. 14-day pendulum movement with thread suspension, hour and half-hour strike on a bell below. The underneath of the plinth is covered with a Latin inscription. Height 39cm, Ø 19,5cm. Enclosed: Pendulum & key. Provenance: Rhenish private ownership.
