[GOERG (Édouard)].

Perfumes. [Paris], HEC, 1956. In-4 (33 x 24.5 cm), black box, mosaic decoration on boards with intersecting curved listels of red, orange, havana, navy blue chagrin and almond green box, interspersed with gilded authors' names, smooth spine with gilded Chinese-style title, gilded head, black box interior framing with almond green box listel, midnight blue velvet lining and endpapers, covers and spine preserved, folder and slipcase (Gauduchon-Blin-1988). Edition illustrated by Georg with a color frontispiece lithograph and 10 black lithographs, including 4 on double-page, 5 hors texte and 1 in the text. Limited edition of 638 hors-commerce copies, this one of 630 on Rives wove paper, no. 536. This work brings together texts on perfume by various authors (Baudelaire, Leconte de Lisle, Anna de Noailles, the Persian poet Hafiz...). Provenance: > Maurice Houdayer collection Condition report: Some discharges from the lithographs. Henri Jonquières, publisher of fine books between the wars, went bankrupt in 1935. After 1945, he became art director, typographer and layout artist, teaching at the École Estienne and the Beaux-Arts de Paris - as well as, as we see here, at the HEC business school. This copy is beautifully bound, demonstrating the talent of Marion Blin, whose mosaic spells out the names of the authors of the texts illustrated by Goerg.
