Vergers à Auvers Oil on canvas signed lower right 65 x 81 cm Provenance: > Collignon-Laurent, Soissons sale November 20, 1994 lot 111 Condition report: Framed Venezuelan painter who grew up in France, where his parents settled in 1862. A pupil of Jean-Paul Laurens and William Bouguereau, he studied alongside Cristobal Rojas and Arturo Michelena. He befriended the painter Henri Martin, who had a strong influence on his work. Émilio Boggio won several awards at the Salon des Artistes Français and at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition. He is best known for his "post-impressionist and pre-expressionist" paintings. Inspired by the paintings of Claude Monet, who became his friend, as well as Henri Martin and Van Gogh, he worked particularly on light and expressivity. Monet, Marquet and Renoir bought several paintings from him. Works by the painter, who was much admired by Sisley and Pissarro, are now housed in numerous museums in France, including the Musée d'Orsay and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
