VAN OVERSTRAETEN War (1891-1981). Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Drawing on paper mounted on canvas. Monogrammed lower right. Countersigned and titled on the back. Unframed. Approx. 26 x 34 cm. Minor damage and missing parts, especially around the edges, including stains. Sold as is -- War Van Overstraeten: a painter and politician who was one of the main founders of Belgium's Communist Party. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. After 1945, painting became his main activity. He joined the Animism movement. Works are conserved at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, and in numerous museums in Belgium. Family provenance.
