Few tears in the margins (without reaching the text), rare foxing. Volume II in a different binding. The set includes issues n°1 from July 12 to 19, 1789 to n°206 from June 15 to 22, 1793. "Introduction à la Révolution", 72 pages, dated 1790 is at the head of volume I. Volume 17 (issues 207 to 225) is missing. Set comprising 116 engravings on the key events of the Revolution. Note the astonishing plate on "the oral seat, fixed and mobile, intended to reinforce the voice of the orator in a large assembly", an invention to ensure that sound waves are diffused as well as possible in a vast space... (see photo) The department maps are missing. A sort of diary of the French Revolution in the making, this periodical edited by Prudhomme makes a considerable historical contribution. "No [publication] is richer in detail on the whole of the first 4 years of the Revolution" (Hatin pages 148-149). Good condition of text and plates.
