Yves SAINT-LAURENT (1936-2008). "The dazzling Tallien evoked by Christiane Favre Jaume". Gouache on paper, monogrammed lower left. Poster project "L'éblouissante Tallien - évoquée par Christiane Favre Jaume". Height 63.5 - Width: 49 cm at sight (tiny folds and small tears at edges) Provenance : Collection of Macelle Lloret, director of the Red Cross in Oran, aunt of the current owner, friend of the Saint-Laurent family in Oran. Yves Mathieu-Saint-Laurent discovered theater in Oran during a performance of L'Ecole des femmes directed by Louis Jouvet in 1950. Already an excellent draughtsman, fascinated by set and costume design, the young Yves Saint Laurent hesitated whether to turn to the world of fashion or theater. He enrolled at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de Couture in Paris before joining Christian Dior in 1955. That same year, the designer created the sets for the ballet Musique de Foire, a three-act play by Madame Christiane Favre-Jaume which premiered at the Ballets de Monte Carlo in March 1956. Some of these set designs are preserved at the Musée Fondation Yves Saint Laurent in Paris.
