Alfred SMITH (1854-1936). "Le moulin de la Folie". Oil on canvas signed and titled on the back. Height : 53 - Width : 65 cm Born in Bordeaux, this post-impressionist painter took a Fauvist turn in his painting around 1912. At this time, he discovered the Creuse valley with Paul Madeline and Eugène Alluaud. Settled in the region, he painted the Crozant area until his death. A subject dear to the painters of the Crozant School, the Moulin de la Folie has been depicted by Wynford Dewhurst (collection of the Musée de la Ville de Chateauroux), Paul Madeline (Musée Georges Sand), Léon Detroy and Armand Guillaumin (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Limoges, on deposit with the Musée d'Orsay).
