Albert PEPIN (1849-1917). "Abdoulah Khan and his officers". Watercolor signed lower right, located "Tchitral", dated 1887, captioned: "Abdoullah Khan et ses officiers - Mission scientifique française 1886-1887 - Bonvalot, Pépin, Capus.". Height 32 - Width 48 cm at sight In 1886, explorer Gabriel Bonvalot (1853-1933), accompanied by Doctor Guillaume Capus and draftsman Albert Pépin, planned to reach India via Afghanistan. He was one of the first Frenchmen to explore the mountainous regions of Central Asia. On his return to Paris, he published "Du Caucase aux Indes à travers le Pamir" in 1889, illustrated by Pépin. He was awarded the Légion d'Honneur and the Médaille d'Or by the Société de Géographie.
