Height 123 - W 90 cm (small accidents) Provenance : Former collection of the Governor of French Indochina Albert Sarraut (1911-1914; 1917-1919) then by direct descent. Augustin Carrera studied with Alphonse Moutte in Marseille, then with Léon Bonnat and Henri Martin when he entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. His talent was soon noticed, and he was influenced by such great names as Degas, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Monet. In 1912, his career took a turning point when he was awarded the Indochina Scholarship. He spent eight months in the Far East. Landscapes and Buddhist temples became the new subjects of his paintings. Around 1910, he met Albert Sarraut, statesman and governor of Indochina. An admirer of his work, he was quick to include Augustin Carrera's paintings in his own collection. Our work can be seen as a testimony to the relationship between the two men.
