Contes et nouvelles en vers. Amsterdam, 1762. 2 volumes in-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, interior roulette, paper lining and endpapers decorated with a series of gilt stars, gilt edges (period binding). Famous edition, known as the Fermiers-Généraux because they had it printed at their own expense, illustrated with 2 portraits (La Fontaine and Eisen) engraved by Ficquet, 80 figures by Eisen engraved in intaglio by Aliamet, Baquoy, Choffard, Flipart, Lemire, etc., and numerous culs-de-lampe and vignettes by the master ornamentalist Choffard. The figures for Papefiguière's Cas de conscience and Diable are uncovered. Copy in contemporary morocco. Light freckling, sometimes uniform, in many sections.
