DIONÍS RENART I GARCIA (Barcelona, 1878 - 1946) "Mary". Polychrome and gilded plaster. Presents label on the back. Signed. Measurements: 22 x 20 x 3 cm. Sculptor and astronomer, he was son of the painter Dionís Renart i Bosch and nephew of the painter Joaquim Renart. Initially trained with his father, he also studied at the Llotja school and with the sculptor Josep Llimona. His time in Paris would make him know closely the work of Auguste Rodin, a great influence for Renart. His work focuses on the decorative arts, with examples in ceramics, medals and jewelry for the Masriera house, all under the stylistic influence of Modernism. He participated in several Fine Arts exhibitions in Barcelona (Eva, 1911; La Raza, 1918) and Madrid (Allegory and Portraits, 1912). He was an anatomical sculptor at the Faculty of Medicine in Barcelona. He also practiced religious imagery and funerary sculpture, being co-author with Josep Llimona and Antoni Gaudí of the set The Three Marys of the Resurrection of Jesus (1913-1916), the First Mystery of Glory of the Monumental Rosary of Montserrat.
