JOSE FRANCO CORDERO (Jerez de la Frontera, 1851 - Madrid, 1892). "Landscape". Oil on panel. Signed Measurements: 41 x 30 cm; 55 x 44 cm (frame). José Franco Cordero was a Spanish landscape painter. He signed F. Cordero, which has led to some confusion in the art markets. A student of José Jiménez Aranda at the School of Fine Arts in Seville and at the Escuela Superior de Pintura in San Fernando de Madrid with Carlos de Haes, he drifted towards realistic landscape and costumbrismo. He participated in the National Exhibitions of 1878 (Landscape), 1881 (The Afternoon) and 1892 (in which he won a third medal for his Landscape). His work is preserved in the Prado Museum and three canvases in the Museum of History of Madrid.
