BARYE Antoine-Louis (1795-1875). "Elephant crushing a tiger". Bronze with shaded brown-green patina. Signed BARYE on the terrace below the elephant's left foreleg. H.21,5 W.35 D.18,5. Trace of exhibition label under the base, probably BEUGNET. Listed in the artist's catalog raisonné, reference A120, page 254. Our bronze is a BARYE workshop cast, according to the editors of the catalog raisonné, and the period cast run is estimated at less than 15 copies, with a posthumous "Brame" edition only of the same order.
