Description
RARE MAZARIN DESKTOP in red tortoiseshell, brass inlay and blackened wood. It opens on the front with 2 sets of 3 curved drawers that frame an elegant interior with a straight door framed by curved jambs and a large curved drawer. It has bracketed uprights. It rests on 8 sheathed legs ending in bronze loaves and joined by a double X brace. The marquetry on the front is decorated with birds, wings outstretched, framing asparagus tips, foliage and flowers. The drawers are framed in bronze. The lingotière top features elegant marquetry of winged sphinxes framed by antique vases garnished with fruit, a rosette element framed by interlacing, leafy garlands and birds with outstretched wings.
