"General view of the Bosphorus from Constantinople to Roumeli Hissari, (Prise d'Asie)". France, Paris, after Joseph Schranz (1803-1853), second half of the 19th century Black-and-white lithograph consisting of five sheets of paper depicting a panorama of the southern part of both banks of the Bosphorus. Numbered in pencil 4/500. Framed under glass. Sheet size: 37.5 x 32 cm (sighted); 32.5 x 32 cm; 33 x 32 cm; 32.5 x 32 cm; 36.5 x 32 cm (sighted). Some leaves are slightly truncated in their length. There are several versions of this panorama by Schranz, some enhanced in color, on slightly smaller sheets (approx. 25 x 33 cm). There are several editions printed by Jacomme, one on rue de St Quentin and the other on rue Meslay. Joseph Schranz (1803-1853) was a German-born Maltese artist who traveled to Istanbul around 1833 and returned around 1850. He specialized in panoramic views, many of which were lithographed by Léon Jean-Baptiste Sabatier (died 1887).
