DAUM, Nancy

Arabesque in black and pink High flute with hemmed lip, resting on a slender pedestal that accentuates its elegance. Characteristic of the move towards transparency and the abandonment of pre-war naturalism, this vase in colorless bubble glass is entirely made by blow-molding: allusive, colorful decoration, a thread of black glass curls in a continuous arabesque all along the vase, punctuated by single drops of pink glass placed as if at random. The sense of color and contrast marks Paul Daum's desire to be of his time. Signed with a stylus on the transparent black-belted pedestal. Circa 1920/1921 Height: 34 cm Reference: Paris, "'Salon d'automne", 1921, (set of vases designed on the same principles) Provenance: Ader Picard Tajan sale, 3rd Sale in Japan Daum Nancy Collection, Tokyo-Hôtel Okura, Wednesday, October 7, 1987
