Pierre Narcisse GUÉRIN (Paris, March 13, 1774 - Rome, 1833) Study for a face of Morpheus or Cephalus circa, 1810 Black stone and white highlights on gray laid paper 250 x 340 mm Glued in full on a period mount Empire period gilded wood frame Note: The face, although inverted, is probably a preparatory study for the face of Cephalus (sketch in the Hermitage Museum and two versions in the Louvre and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow) and can also be compared to the figure of Morpheus.
