KING'S MUSKETEERS OFFICER'S SABER OF THE 1ST COMPANY, MODEL 1814 Chagrin-covered handle with filigree. Gilt and chased brass mounting, short-skirted cap adorned with lion mask on top and fleurdelys cross on back. Chased brass guard with musketeer cross, quillon curved to the point. Engraved, gilded and blued one-third straight flatback blade from Weyersberg in Solingen. Signed on the heel "Duc fourbisseur de la Maison du Roi rue Saint-Honoré N°251". Mounted with an iron scabbard to a pontat bracelet. A.B.E. slight oxidation, needs cleaning. History: This type of saber is particularly rare, given the short life of the unit and the few officers involved. See Maurice Cottaz's article on musketeer sabers in Ariès (1966).
