Description
Deluxe saber model 1821, donated by the 4th Company of Chasseurs of the 1st Battalion of the 7th Legion of the National Guard to Sergeant Major SENOZE in 1831. Handle entirely silver filigree. Finely chased and gilded brass mounting, two-prong guard decorated with foliage and palmettes. Cap decorated with a lion's head, amati top. Flat-backed curved blade signed "PK", richly engraved, gilded and blued in two-thirds, with cartouches marked "GARDE NATIONALE" and "INFANTERIE", roosters, stars, trophies of arms, a "1831" cartouche and the inscription "à M.Senoze sert Major" "7ème légion 1er Bon la 4ème Cie de Chasseurs". Black patent leather scabbard (partly stripped) with two gilded brass fittings decorated with laurel friezes, foliage and a rooster. Cap knob decorated with a helmet. B.E. July Monarchy period. SENOZE is listed as battalion commander of the Garde nationale du canton de Pantin, 2nd battalion (La Chapelle and Saint Ouen).
