Rare British passport dated 1830. British passport; or authorization to travel on French territory, numbered 2273; issued to British citizens Mr and Mrs Grun. Issued in Paris, November 12, 1830. Paper with large British royal coat of arms and Stuart coat of arms. Dimensions: 43 x 26.5 cm. With autograph signature of the British Ambassador to France, the Right Honorable Charles, Lord Stuart de Rothesay. Lord Charles Stuart, first Baron de Rothesay (January 2, 1779 - November 6, 1845) was a British diplomat. He was twice ambassador to France (1815-1825 and 1828-1830). Chevalier-grand-croix du plus honorable ordre du Bath (GCB) in 1815. In 1830, by decree of King Louis-Philippe, the movement of foreign nationals was restricted in France to limit political unrest, and required a passport. All travel was authorized by the Prefect of the French Police, in this case Achille comte Treilhard (1785-1855), Prefect of Police from November 7, 1830 to December 26, 1830.
