Travel trunk of Madame Sophie (1734-1782), sixth daughter of King Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska. Wooden, leather-covered, with three wooden reinforcing bands on the lid, wrought-iron reinforcing bands and corners. Lid marked with small brass studs "LIVRE" and "C de Md SOPHIE". Closes with two wrought-iron locks. Transportable by two folding side handles also in wrought iron. Length: 113 cm. Width: 54 cm. Height with lid: 52 cm. Misses and wear. Circa 1760-1770. Biography: Sophie Philippe Élisabeth Justine de France, born July 27, 1734 in Versailles and died March 3, 1782 in Versailles, better known as Madame Sophie, was the sixth daughter and eighth of ten children of Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska.
