Adrien Etienne GAUDEZ (1845-1902) "Louison à la tête des femmes de la halle, October 5, 1789". Fine proof in bronze with brown patina. Signed on the base "A. Gaudez" and titled on a cartouche. Height: 60 cm After the plaster chief model presented at the 1889 Salon des Artistes Français and acquired by the French State in 1892. Louise Chabry is best known for leading the women's drum march from the Halle to Versailles in the face of famine. Arriving in front of King Louis XVI, she is said to have had only enough time to ask for "bread" before fainting. The king took her in his arms and calmed the crowd for a while, promising bread for the people.
