François de TROY (1645-1730) Portrait of a lady in a blue dress and pink silk overcoat holding an orange branch, known as La Belle Menuisière (The Beautiful Carpenter) Canvas Height : 117 cm Width: 90 cm Wooden frame and gilded stucco with shells. Provenance: - Probably from the collection of the Duchesse de Berry at the Château de Rosny (perhaps inherited from her husband Charles Ferdinand de Bourbon, Duc de Berry (1778-1820) at the Palais de l'Élysée); - private collection of the 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos; - Christie's sale of Stowe Castle 13/09/1848; p 169, lot n°217 (as "La Belle Menuisiere - from the Duchess de Berri's collection - (Rigaud)"); - private collection of Henry Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle and Earl of Lincoln; - Christie's London sale 04/06/1937, p 20, Lot n°86 as H.Rigaud, buyer ("M ou Mme Pakin"); - private collection of Jane Edwards Champlin; - Christie's New-York sale 03/06/1998 lot n°40 (entourage of Alexis Simon Belle); - private collection New-York.
